CYBER strives to develop the cyber resilience of European schools by creating tailored EU quality procedures for the school system, and by equipping the professors and students with the tools and knowledge to discuss conscious and unconscious online behaviours of adolescents, cyberpsychology and the downsides of the Internet overuse, to enhance the classrooms understanding of the dangerous emerging behaviours a young user may incur.
- To raise students’ critical thinking and their knowledge to understand the dangerous emerging behaviours through the Internet towards themselves and their peers.
- To develop professors’ competencies to engage the classroom in thinking critically when using the Internet and to deal with cyberthreats and negative behaviours on the Internet.
- To provide the schools in EU with technical-juridical information and quality procedures on cyberdata and cybersecurity, thus building their capacity and resiliency.
- To create a pioneer network of secondary schools with an ISO 27001 certification and to become role models of innovative ways to educate students and professors on cyberpsychology, cyberthreats and cyber resiliency.
- Co-designing materials for cyber threat prevention and management addressed to youth education.
- Recording of video real stories about the virtual world and cyber threats experienced by participating students and/or peers.
- National focus groups with the students on their experiences as online users.
- Designing non-formal education practices specifically tailored for the development of young people’s interpersonal and social skills in the online world.
- Comparative study on cyber resiliency and cyber threats.
- Handbook for professors on the psychological effects (like hikikomori syndrome, cognitive distortions) triggered by cyber threats and Internet misuse (such as trolling, phishing, revenge porn, yet also over-gaming, fake identities on social media) and on how to engage the classroom into thinking critically when using the Internet.
- Toolkit with practical and reflection activities (in-presence/ online, individual/group) to spot, classify, think critically and positively deal with cyber threats.
- Policy Recommendation Paper on Data security and Cyber security, specifically tailored for schools.
Results
- Raised self-esteem, civic engagement and commitment of the involved students to protect themselves and their peers/friends from negative social behaviour on the Internet.
- Increased awareness regarding cyber threats and misuse of the virtual world by young people, teachers, and educational organizations in Europe.
- Neutralised fears of families of those who became (or might become) victims of cyberbullyism or other forms of online crimes.
- Improved accessibility to resources to support the prevention and management of cyber threats in the school-youth context.
